DAY 1: NORTHERN KRUGER NATIONAL PARK
Guests are met and welcomed on arrival at O R Tambo International or any other location of their choice in either Johannesburg or Pretoria, from where we travel north, passing through the town of Polokwane before descending the spectacular Magoebas Valley and reaching the town of Tzaneen. From Tzaneen we travel to Phalaborwa and on to the world-renowned Kruger National Park . The late afternoon is devoted to relaxing in camp with the sounds of the African wilderness welcoming guests to the Kruger wilderness.
DAY 2: NORTHERN KRUGER NATIONAL PARK
Spotting the carnivores of Kruger is normally high on the wish list of most foreign visitors. Your guide will utilize his experience to try and make this a reality on the day's two game drives. The big cats to which Kruger is home include lion, leopard and cheetah. The smaller cats, which are not as well-known, include the caracal, serval and the African wildcat. Other predators which occur in the area include the spotted hyena, side-striped and black-backed jackal. The wild dog, which is the most endangered predator in Southern Africa, is also protected in this conservation area.
DAY 3: CENTRAL KRUGER NATIONAL PARK
The species of herbivore which can be spotted during your game drives can generally be divided into two broad categories, namely browsers and grazers. The concentration of grazers, which feed predominantly on grass, is highest on the central plains of the Kruger Park. Here large herds of buffalo, wildebeest and zebra are often seen. The most common browsers who feed on the leaves of the various tree species include the impala, kudu and bushbuck. Although not as common, a sighting of nyala is also very likely. Many regard this antelope as the most strikingly beautiful of all the antelope found in the Kruger Park.
DAY 4: CENTRAL KRUGER NATIONAL PARK
The Kruger Park is home to a number of rare antelope species which may be spotted while enjoying the two safaris of the day. The roan antelope, sable, hartebeest and tsessebe are not found in large numbers in the park. This would make a sighting of one of these species a truly memorable Kruger safari. The sable, with its long curved horns, is a very impressive animal. They are typically found in small herds that can number up to twelve animals and are usually spotted in areas with open woodland and grassland. Each herd has a strict hierarchy with a dominant male and one or two dominant females.
DAY 5: SOUTHERN KRUGER NATIONAL PARK
Your guide will closely monitor animal sightings of the previous day as indicated by visitors based on what they have seen. Pins of various colors denoting the specific species are placed on a map normally located adjacent to the camp's restaurant. Your guide will utilize this information to plan the route of the day's two game drives. Most animals are territorial and are likely to be spotted in the same area on subsequent days. Lions which have made a large kill will often stay in the same area for a few days while feeding on the carcass.
DAY 6: SOUTHERN KRUGER NATIONAL PARK
Morning and afternoon safaris are conducted in the area surrounding camp. The Kruger Park has over 2 500 kilometers of roads from which the park can be explored. Your guide would typically select some of the many gravel roads in the area. These will often take you to an area of the park with a very low density of vehicles. Some time may be devoted to sitting at a waterhole or at one of the many lookout points and bird hides. This is a tactic which may deliver spectacular wildlife sightings, especially in the dry season when a large number of animals are attracted to a limited number of water sources.
DAY 7: DEPARTURE
A last morning game drive in this wilderness area is followed by breakfast and a return journey to Johannesburg via the national highway. Guests are returned to any location of their choice in either Johannesburg or Pretoria after a memorable in-depth Kruger Park safari .
